I’M EMPLOYED! I’m not sure why I waited so long to share the good news; but I guess I thought the job was too good to be true! Of course I immediately accepted the offer (without even inquiring about my yearly salary…whoops) and the initial excitement has yet to wear off! I will be the new middle grades mathematics teacher for a charter school in Monroe, North Carolina. When I began the application and interview process back in October, I had only considered public schools within Wake and Charlotte-Mecklenburg County. However, with a lot of praying and the recommendation of a dear family friend, I found myself driving to Monroe on an early Friday, October morning for what I expected to be a 45-minute interview. In reflection the process seems like a daydream, the meeting was more of a conversation rather than an interview, and for two hours I preached my love for teaching and the administrators and I discussed the vision of the school. I am so honored to be given the opportunity to work at a great school with an outstanding staff!
The school is approximately 30 minutes from the heart of Charlotte, North Carolina and I have already begun looking for housing around the area (specifically, in the town of Matthews). If anyone has any suggestions in regards to apartments, restaurants, or other neat places that I should visit I would love to hear them!
Not a day goes by that I don’t thank God for leading me to such a wonderful profession and I know within my heart that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. I realize that moving away from my family and friends in Raleigh is a huge deal, especially for someone whose best friend in the whole-wide word is their Mom. But moving to a new city is the opportunity of a lifetime and I cannot wait to be independent, meet new faces, and enjoy my twenties while I still can!
“I have faith that God will show you the answer. But you have to understand that sometimes it takes a while to be able to recognize what God wants you to do. That’s how it often is. God’s voice is usually nothing more than a whisper, and you have to listen very carefully to hear it. But other times, in those rarest of moments, the answer is obvious and rings as loud as a church bell.”

Watch out Queen City, Alyssa’s coming to town!! 🙂
