pass the happy

A couple of weeks ago I received a promotional offer via TheSkimm to try ClassPass for one week at a cost of only 10 dollars. The best part? If I attended at least three classes I would receive the 10 dollars back…score! And y’all, I am so sad this offer was only for a week. ClassPass is a service that allows you to take as many classes as you want at some of the most popular health studios in your city for only 80 dollars a month. I’m talking cycling, yoga, barre, strength training, dance, and so much more! You can cancel your membership at anytime and you can book classes online or through the user-friendly iPhone app! I really can’t rave enough about my experience. During my week trial I was able to take a variety of classes at four different studios…continue reading for my full recap below!
Barre Fusion @ Carolina Barre & Core
Class Description: “Barre Fusion fuses the disciplines of core and strength conditioning, Pilates, Yoga and Ballet. You get a total body and comprehensive workout as you lift, tone, sculpt and lengthen your muscles through isometric and isolated movements and focus on proper alignment/form, flexibility and posture. Our teachers will target each of your muscle groups to the point of exhaustion and then stretch those muscles in a way to promote long and lean growth.”

My Experience: Intense workout! Barre Fusion is an incredible routine that not only burns calories, but also strengthens and tones muscles. I have to admit, I was extremely nervous beforehand because I thought I would not have enough endurance to complete all of the exercises. And although some of the sets were challenging and I had to pause briefly multiple times, it felt so rewarding to know I gave it 100% of my best effort. Plus, the instructor was great! My advice…embrace the shaking!

Traditional Hot Yoga “Earth” Sequence @ The Yoga Oasis
Class Description: “Traditional Hot Yoga “Earth” Sequence 60 minutes.  Deep & grounding hip opening postures to relieve tension held in the hips, pelvis & inner thighs. New postures introduced to help relieve back tension by opening space in the side body, improving ventilation of the lungs, and providing cleansing circulation to the vital organs that keep your immune system. Spine strengthening postures round out the practice to provide improved mobility and flexibility in your spine. This class is for ALL levels, beginner to advanced practitioner.”

My Experience: Super hot! This class was true to it’s description and exactly what I needed after a long day at work. I have always struggled with lower back pain and I felt that the “Earth” sequence would be perfect for relieving tension…and boy was I right! I left the studio feeling stretched throughout my entire spine and hips. I have to admit, I feel in love with this class and studio. I could not have asked for a better instructor, as she demonstrated the postures and referred to each student by name. My advice…bring a towel!

Class Description: “Life’s too busy for boring workouts. Body-blasting music mixes with 60 minutes of sweating, smiling, and laughing through Pilates, yoga, and kickboxing moves.”

My Experience: So fun! When I read the description I knew straight away that Dance Mixx would be the perfect class for me because I absolutely love to dance…and I was not disappointed! The workout not only consisted of 45 minutes of dance-based cardio, but also 15 minutes of weighted strength training. The music selection was great and although it was 5:45 in the morning, I laughed the entire time and left sweaty and energized! My advice…have fun and be ready to shake your booty! 🙂

AerialSilks- Fundamentals @ Be Yoga South
Class Description: “PERFECT for first timers! And no, you do not need to be able to do a pull up before trying a class. Aerial silks classes put the moves and tricks into fluid movement. You do not need to have dance experience to enjoy aerial silks classes.”

My Experience: Incredible! AerialSilks was probably the coolest thing I have ever done and I would highly recommend the class to anyone brave enough to give it a try! Our group was mixed with students who had various lev
els of experience (I was the only newbie) and the instructor did an awesome job accommodating each student based upon their individual ability. It is true, you do not need to be able to do a pull up before trying the class…but upper-body strength is definitely a component to some of the moves and tricks. I can’t wait to go back and try the AerialYoga class! My advice…enjoy the experience!
